This is a magical time of year and we’re soaking up every bit of the magic we can. When Backlights and Buttons shared a post about how to take pictures of Christmas Lights, I knew we had to get out and try for ourselves. Driving through town looking at gorgeous Christmas displays is a tradition my family had when I was young and I’m excited to continue it with my own family.
We chose to drive this year because Peanut is still very small and we are all getting over being sick. If you want to make this a no spend adventure, make some hot chocolate before you leave the house and walk around your neighborhood exploring your neighbors’ hard work.
As transplants in Manhattan, it’s hard to know where to find the best displays. Fortunately I have savvy friends who directed us to the best neighborhoods. While we followed their guidance, we made sure to veer off the expected path to explore parts of town we wouldn’t necessarily visit in our day to day.
We spent 30 minutes exploring our city decked out in sparkles. Our neighbors clearly put a lot of effort into their displays and we are so grateful for the opportunity to explore our town in a new light.
A note on safety – while it’s fun to explore new areas, please be conscious of your own personal safety. Please don’t enter areas you’re unfamiliar with on foot. Especially in the dark. Be aware of your surroundings, always tell someone where you are going and when you expect to be back, If somewhere looks questionable it’s much better to miss out than to put yourself in danger.
